Albert Sidney Ham

Albert Sidney Ham was born on 28 April, 1891, in Allens Creek, Tennessee.  One of nine children.  His father, Solomon Thomas Ham, was 43 and his mother, Mary Grooms, was 31.

He registered for military service in 1918 at the age of 26.  On his draft registration card he lists his occupation as an Engine Inspector 23 at the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway Company in Del Rio, Texas.  He was sent to Fort Benjamin in Indiana for training.

Private Ham (3063540) departed New York on his way to France aboard the U.S.S. Euripedes on 16 August, 1918, as part of Company “M”, 34th Engineers.  While serving in France, he was a member of the Washington Lafayette Masonic Club in Is-sur-Tille, France.  A.P.O. 919.

He married Olive Jane Aulsbury on 25 June, 1925, in Campbell, Missouri.  They were the parents of Mary Olive, Albert Sidney Jr. and Louise Aulsbury.  He lived in San Antonio, Texas where he operated an icehouse business, West Commerce Ice Co., with his brother Jake for about 5 years, moving to Sacramento, California, in 1940 where he and his wife operated the Capital Auto Camp, an auto court, gas station and market located at Stockton Blvd. and Fruit Ridge Road.  

Albert was a member of Post 1660, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Val Verde Lodge No. 646 Free and Accepted Masons as well as the Royal Arch Masons in Del Rio, Texas.

Brother Ham passed on 17 December 1944, in Sacramento, California, at the age of 53 after a brief illness.  His funeral service was held at the Mission Chapel of Andrews & Greilich Funeral Home with Masonic funeral rites and he rests in the East Lawn Memorial Park, Sacramento, California.

Soft and safe, my brother, be they resting place. Bright and glorious be thy rising from it.
