Christian Streit was born on 5 August, 1889, in New Haven, Connecticut. Son of Christian and Caroline Streit.
Prior to the war, he worked at American Steel & Wire Co. as a Rope Wire Clerk. He was also a member of Pulaski Chapter No. 26, Royal Arch Masons in New Haven, Connecticut. He had claimed exemption from the draft as he was classified as a munitions worker. He never married.
Christian signed up for the U.S. Naval Reserve Force at the recruiting station in New Haven, Connecticut on 5 June, 1918, at the age of 27. He was inducted as a Seaman Second Class and sent to train at Camp Pelham Bay Park in New York on 7 August.
He was admitted to the Naval Hospital at Pelham Bay Park on 26 September 1918 with Bronchial Pneumonia. He, unfortunately, did not recover from his illness and passed away on 4 October 1918.
Soft and safe, my brother, be thy resting place. Bright and glorious by thy rising from it.
Lest we forget…
Christian remembered on the Honor Roll of Pulaski Chapter No. 26 Royal Arch Masons, New Haven Connecticut
