Ernest F. Carlander was born on 19 July, 1890 in Minneapolis, MN.
Ernest registered for the draft on 5 June, 1917, at the age of 26. He lists his occupation as a draftsman working for the City of Los Angeles
Brother Carlander entered the Army where he was eventually assigned to the 143rd Field Artillery, 40th Division. He departed Los Angeles for the Arcadia concentration camp on 18 August, 1917, to be equipped and further drilled.
In June of 1918, he was stationed in Camp Kearney, CA, as part of the Third Provisional Recruit Co. On 26 June, he wrote a letter to his brethren at Hollywood Lodge:
He shipped out of New York City to France aboard the U.S.S. Armagh on 15 August, 1918. It was demobilized on 28 January, 1919 in San Francisco, CA. Ernest resided in California for the rest of his life.
In 1940, he was project superintendent for projects undertaken in Kings Canyon National Park by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Bro. Carlander entered into the celestial lodge above on 22 March, 1969, and now rests in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, CA.
